Anuj Sharma was born on 15 May 1976 in Bhatapara, Raipur, to Shri Teken Lal Sharma and Smt. Dehuti Sharma. He completed his schooling in Bhatapara and later earned a Postgraduate degree in History from Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur. From the age of 10 years, he began singing and acting, which became his lifelong passion. He is basically a Chhattisgarhi folk singer, renowned for singing all styles and varieties of Chhattisgarhi folk songs. His stage shows have been the most crowded events in the Chhattisgarh region since the beginning. He is married to Dr. Smita Sharma, and they have two children.
Career Journey
After a brief stint as a Marketing Executive, Anuj Sharma decided to pursue his passion for cinema full-time. In 2000, he launched his film career with "Mor Chhaihan Bhuiyan," which is considered the first film of the modern era of Chhattisgarhi cinema. This film became a massive commercial success. "Mor Chhaihan Bhuiyan" ran for 27 weeks in one Raipur cinema, breaking records of popular Hindi films like "Jai Santoshi Maa" and "Sholay." The film was screened in 4 shows on Day 1, but crowd demand forced the theater to increase it to 5 shows from Day 2. It ran continuously for 109 days in 5 shows and was screened in 8 shows per day in 2 theaters for one week.
In 2009, his film "Mayaa" ran for 25 weeks, achieving Silver Jubilee status when no Hindi movie achieved this. He became the only actor with 8 films released in a single year in Chhattisgarhi language. He has given 4 Silver Jubilee movies in Chhattisgarhi language—no other male or female artist in the region has achieved this. On 1 June 2023, he joined the Indian National Congress (BJP). He is currently serving as MLA from Dharsiwa for the 2023–2028 term.
